Toyota has announced two recalls affecting the Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia models. The measures affect about 400,000 vehicles in the United States.
Software issues
The largest recall affects the 2023-2025 Tundra and Sequoia models, which account for 394,000 units. The manufacturer says a software error can cause the rear camera image to display incorrectly. When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the 14-inch infotainment system may display a half-green, full-green or black screen. This violates federal safety standards and increases the risk of collisions with pedestrians or other vehicles when backing up.
Since this is a software issue, the fix is fairly simple: Dealership technicians will update the software. Notifications to owners are scheduled to begin late next month. 
Component Defect in Tacoma Model
The second recall affects approximately 6,000 Tacoma pickup trucks with all-wheel drive. The manufacturer says that some 2025 models may be equipped with defective front driveshafts. The parts used in the joints of these shafts may be made of the wrong material, causing them to deform or break while driving. This can affect the vehicle’s handling and allow it to move even in park.
Owners will be notified in November and can contact dealerships to check the serial numbers of the front driveshafts. If they are part of the affected batch, they will be replaced free of charge. 
These recalls highlight the importance of regular inspections and software updates in today’s vehicles. Manufacturers are increasingly facing problems related to electronic systems, requiring rapid response to ensure the safety of drivers and other road users. In addition, defects in mechanical components, as in the case of the Tacoma, remind us of the need for careful quality control during the production phase.
