The authoritative publication Consumer Reports has published its own rating of the reliability of cars aged 5 to 10 years. The list includes 26 brands, for whose models analysts managed to collect enough information. Lexus and Toyota topped the list. Tesla, Dodge and Chrysler are at the other end of the rating.
The premium Japanese brand received 75 points out of a possible 100. Toyota, which took second place, was 3 points behind. Mazda, which only got 59 points, was in third place by a significant margin. Acura and Honda also made it into the top five.
For example, Lexus' overall position was influenced by studying the reliability of models such as the IS, ES, GS and LS, the UX, NX, RX crossovers and the GX SUV. In the case of Toyota, the indicators of a whole range of cars were taken into account, including the Corolla and Camry, Prius and Avalon, various RAV4 and Highlander, as well as 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra.
The publication notes that Lexus and Toyota cars have high indicators of constant reliability - they regularly occupy the top lines in the ratings of both new and used cars. This applies to other brands to a lesser extent. For example, the publication placed new Tesla electric cars in the middle position in the top, and in the case of used cars, they were in the third line from the bottom. CR explains this by the fact that ten years ago the company was only introducing new models to the market, which had not yet stood the test of time. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, the opposite is true: 29th place in the reliability rating of new cars and 10th among used cars, which makes this brand the most highly rated premium brand in Europe.
Analysts recommend that when choosing a used car, you focus on the individual model rating, taking into account the specific model year. Improvements made by manufacturers can significantly affect the reliability of a particular model.
