Toyota unveiled two unique concept restomods on Tokyo Motor Show 2023. Both are based on the Toyota AE86 and both are completely unique.
As part of the Tokyo Auto Salon, which opened recently in Japan, Toyota presented several entertaining concepts at once, including two restomods based on sports cars with a factory index AE86, namely the Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin liftbacks.
Outside, the cars have a combined black and white color, which has become cult thanks to the manga and anime Initial D, shod in popular among fans of AE86 rims Speed Star SSR Watanabe, while in inside, attention is drawn to the Bride buckets, multi-point belts safety and bolted roll cage in Levin.
Despite a fairly standard look, both AE86s are given in movement with unusual power plants. Under the hood of the "blind" Sprinter Trueno, you can see the native 16-valve 4A-GE, it just feeds It's not gasoline, it's hydrogen. Engineers replaced injectors, fuel lines and spark plugs, and a hydrogen cylinder appeared in the trunk, borrowed from the serial Toyota Mirai.
Corolla Levin has become an electric car. Set in motion by a small electric motor from a Tundra hybrid pickup truck, batteries taken from a Prius, and all torque is transmitted to the rear axle through a manual gearbox gears.
Note that there are no specific plans to launch the sale of kits for converting standard models to similar eco-friendly Toyota variants until it was announced. But, according to Akio Toyoda, some work in this direction are being pursued and he himself fully supports the path that will allow fans to keep their cars on the road.
