McDonald's in Japan was forced to apologize to Pokemon fans because of crazy overbuyers (4 photos)
Resellers bought up the exclusive Pokemon cards on the very first day, and the fans who were the target of the promotion received nothing.
On August 9, the Japanese division of the network held a collaboration with The Pokemon Company, as part of which they put exclusive collectible cards with Pikachu and one random Pokemon in Happy Meals. According to the original plan, the promotion was supposed to last 3 days, but ended in just 24 hours.
The thing is that the demand for the cards was not only from the huge Pokémon fan base, but also from resellers who bought up Happy Meals in batches and immediately resold them on eBay. At the same time, entire bags of ready-made food were thrown out right in front of the establishment.
McDonald's Japan had to make an official apology for the chaotic organization of the collaboration. They decided not to extend the campaign in order to relieve the burden on the restaurants, which were working in emergency mode on August 9.
