Linda McDonald, 50, went for an early swim with her husband and children in Lyme Bay, Dorset, UK, on August 3. Seconds after the family jumped out of the boat, they were joined by a huge bottlenose dolphin.
The animal was happy to see people. The dolphin danced, played with swimmers and asked to be petted.
Linda, an advertising agency employee, said: “It was an unforgettable moment. I’m so happy I captured it on camera.”
"The dolphin just showed up and wanted to join us. He was friendly and playful. He didn't seem to be put off by our presence, he felt confident."
"I've seen dolphins before, but this is one I'll never forget," the British woman said.
According to the Dorset Wildlife Trust, there are 28 species of whales, dolphins and porpoises living off the coast of the UK.
Bottlenose dolphins are the most common, especially in the Moray Firth in Scotland, Cardigan Bay in Wales, and off the coasts of Cornwall and Northumberland.

The UK bottlenose dolphin population is estimated at around 700.
"The sea belongs to the dolphins and we were lucky enough to spend time with him. He was clearly enjoying being with us. We played with him for five minutes and then let him go," Linda said.
