The unnamed woman claimed her tenants had trashed her apartment in Toowoomba, Australia, and fled, leaving behind a horrific mess infested with maggots. The damage was so severe that assessors were not allowed to enter the property until it was cleaned, Real Estate reports.
The owner of the property says what she saw was "traumatic and too extreme." There were maggots, feces and animal urine in the kitchen cabinets and air conditioners, and the oven had to be thrown out because it was too dirty.
"There were maggots, feces, sanitary pads everywhere. We had to call in a professional cleaning crew in protective gear to clean up the mess inside," says the woman, who was getting $485 a week in rent.
It took nine months to renovate the apartment. The Australian woman expected to pay around $30,000, but when she started work, the figure skyrocketed. Just taking 80 containers of rubbish from her home to the dump cost her $7,000.

In a conversation with local journalists, the woman said that she would have to rent out the house to one family again.
"People can be slobs, but not to this extent. This kind of destructive behavior makes landlords reluctant to continue to advertise properties for rent because the emotional and physical costs of cleaning and repairing are too high," she concluded.
