They say "once an addict, always an addict," but this woman has been proving that wrong for 13 years. On the left, she is just 19 years old and deep into active addiction, drinking heavily, smoking, and stealing.
12 Months Drug-Free
Caroline Best struggled with crack and heroin addiction for years, spending 15 years in and out of prison for repeated thefts. A year ago, the 36-year-old was told her life was hanging by a thread due to severe heart issues. Doctors said she needed urgent open-heart surgery, but they couldn't operate while she was still using.
That was her turning point. Caroline checked into an intensive rehab program. August 27 marked exactly one year since she chose sobriety. Miraculously, her damaged heart valve actually repaired itself thanks to her drastic lifestyle change. She no longer needs surgery and is feeling better than ever!
