The New Electric BMW iX3 Received Harsh Criticism for Its "Beaver" Design (2 photos)
The Bavarian automaker officially unveiled the new-generation iX3 all-electric crossover, based on the futuristic Neue Klasse platform. Its dimensions are slightly larger than the standard gasoline-powered X3. This eco-friendly newcomer features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a respectable 469 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph. However, all the advanced technical specifications and ambitions to become a new, prestigious electric "gel" were immediately overshadowed by its highly controversial appearance. The brand's designers transformed the signature kidney grille into narrow vertical panels, which car enthusiasts immediately dubbed massive "beaver teeth." The final chord in this protracted debate was delivered by the legendary Frank Stevenson, who created the iconic design of the first BMW X5. The renowned designer, without further ado, smashed the electric car's exterior, summing it up succinctly: "Not a bad try, but better luck next time."
