Audi has returned to the world of supercars – the company unveiled the Nuvolari, the first such car since the legendary R8 (9 photos)
The new model is named after Italian racing driver Tazio Nuvolari and features a hybrid powertrain producing 1,001 hp. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors.
The powertrain is borrowed from the 920 hp Lamborghini Temerario, but the Nuvolari is even more powerful: its combined output is 1,001 hp. The system consists of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine producing 800 hp, and three electric motors. Two of these are located on the front axle, while the third is integrated between the internal combustion engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 7.3 kWh.
The Nuvolari accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, placing it among the fastest supercars in the world.
The supercar is the first production Audi model to feature forged wheels with a center lug nut.
Only 499 units will be produced, with a starting price of €600,000.
