Urus fire sparks emergency recalls for Lamborghini, Audi, and Porsche (3 photos)
The essence of the problem
Volkswagen has announced a recall of cars from three of its premium brands – Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini. In total, 122 vehicles are of concern due to the risk of fire. The problem is a potentially incorrect fastening of the high-pressure fuel pump.
Recall details
The Porsche brand is the most affected. The company is recalling 107 Panamera, Panamera E-Hybrid and Cayenne vehicles from model years 2024 to 2026. According to regulators, fasteners that secure the high-pressure fuel pump may not be tightened enough, which can lead to fuel leakage.
This significantly increases the risk of fire, and this threat is quite real. Earlier this month, a car from another brand in the same group was reported to have caught fire, which is equipped with an engine assembled on the same production line.
This incident affects other brands in the group that use engines assembled on the same production line.
Real-life incidents
The fire affected a Lamborghini Urus from the 2025 model year. The incident was preceded by a smell of fuel and the activation of a warning light. There were no fatalities or injuries, but another incident occurred shortly after. Although there was no fire, about 16 liters of gasoline were found in the engine crankcase of another Urus.
Cause of the defect
According to regulators, the initial tightening stage of the fastener was not performed using standard production tools due to a scanner malfunction. Workers then performed the repair incorrectly by not performing the final tightening according to specifications. This means that the connection between the fuel lines and the pump may not be sufficiently airtight.
Scope of the problem and solution
Responsibility for the problem lies with Porsche. In addition to the Porsches, the recall also affects 14 2025 Lamborghini Urus SUVs and one 2025 Audi SQ7. So, the recall is relatively small, which, however, will not please the owner of an expensive car that caught fire.
To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, tighten the connections. Technicians will also replace the high-pressure pump and fuel lines, if necessary.
Such incidents with premium cars always attract special attention, as customers expect the highest quality and safety. The concern's rapid response to specific cases and the organization of the recall indicate an effort to prevent more serious consequences. It is important for owners of the affected models to immediately contact official dealers for inspection, even if there are no obvious signs of a malfunction, as the risk is related to safety.
