Toyota is preparing to release a new 2-liter engine with 600 hp (2 photos)
In May 2024, Toyota confirmed information about work on a new family of 1.5- and 2-liter turbo engines, which are being created in cooperation with Subaru and Mazda. The power plants, as stated, are ready for electrification and, moreover, are capable of running on synthetic fuel. At that time, the company did not talk about the characteristics, but the other day the information appeared in the Japanese media.
The output of the new 2-liter engine will be quite significant. In its simplest variation, the turbo engine will produce 300 horsepower and 400 Nm, a more powerful modification will be 400 horsepower (550 Nm), and in the most charged specification, all 600 horsepower will be removed from the engine. And this is not part of a hybrid power plant. However, it is specified that in the latter case, we are talking more about the racing use of the unit, and not civilian.
One of the models in which a 2-liter turbo engine may debut was also mentioned in the Japanese media. We are talking about the revived MR2 sports car. The car is set to become the flagship of the GRMN line and will be offered to buyers with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission at a price of around 10 million yen.
