A rare water deer
The water deer is the most unusual species in the deer family. It is hornless, but has long, curved tusks. When feeding, these tusks are retracted, but when threatened, they protrude.
This is a "vampire deer," or more accurately, a water deer. It lacks antlers, but it does have long, sharp tusks.
These animals can extend and retract their tusks, using them in fights during which they can literally kill their opponents. Moreover, the tusks grow throughout life—in adults, they can appear particularly long and frightening.
But the tusks aren't the most terrifying part of these deer. They can also... scream. Instead of the familiar deer "snort," these animals produce a sound that resembles a mixture of a dog bark, a human scream, and a squeak.
It is primarily found north of the Yangtze Valley in eastern China and Korea. The water deer spends a lot of time near water, where it forages for food. Its proximity to water also allows it to hide from predators.
If you don't encounter one at night, they're generally quite cute.
