China has tested the world's heaviest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Its payload capacity is 3.5 tons. The drone is designed for takeoff from short runways.
The world's heaviest cargo drone has completed its maiden flight in China.
The launch of the Changying-8 UAV took place at the airport in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The 17-meter-long aircraft, with a 25-meter wingspan, was developed by the China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) for military and civilian use.
The Changying-8 is capable of carrying a payload of up to 3.5 tons and covering a range of over 3,000 km.
The drone is suitable for use in difficult terrain—a runway less than 500 meters long is sufficient for takeoff and landing. The first flight lasted 30 minutes, and the tests were successful.
