A solar farm comparable in power to a nuclear power plant has been commissioned in China (2 photos)
The area of the Midun solar power plant is 133.5 square meters. km, and the capacity is 3.5 GW. And this power is quite comparable to a medium-sized nuclear power plant. For example, one of the largest in Ukraine, Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, generated 6 GW of electricity.
The solar power plant is located in the Taklamakan Desert, in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China.
The state-owned company China Green Electricity Investment of Tianjin was responsible for commissioning.
China Green Development Group (CGDG), established in December 2020, is a major energy investment organization under the Chinese government, succeeding the former Luneng Group. Administered directly by the State Council's State Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), CGDG specializes in the investment, construction and management of renewable energy projects.
The cost of the giant solar power plant was estimated at 15.45 billion yuan.
Midun Power Plant consists of 5,260,000 monocrystalline bifacial solar panels. Double glass was used to create the panels for protection and increased service life.
The project's extensive infrastructure includes the installation of 1.23 million support piles and more than 208 km of transmission lines.
China is investing heavily in alternative energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, as well as to diversify the country's energy sector.
