Do you know what connects the iron will of the Roman emperor, the Japanese labor system, a record-breaking polar bird, and the center of a distant galaxy?

They are all part of our incredible reality. Welcome to a world of amazing facts, where each one represents a small but fascinating discovery.

1. Together and Forever

In Japan, there is a system of lifetime employment (shushin koyo): large companies hire full-time employees immediately after graduation and retain them until retirement. New employees are selected for their overall potential, not specific skills. They are considered the company's human capital: they are trained, developed, and assigned to positions that benefit the company.

2. What you find is yours

In Arkansas, the Crater of Diamonds diamond mine is open to the public—the only one in the world. Visitors are welcome to keep any gems they find. Since the park's establishment in 1972, 31,000 stones have been found there.

3. The Price of Freedom

Julius Caesar was kidnapped by pirates, who demanded 20 silver talents for his freedom. However, Caesar declared that they should ask 50, as the price was too low. When the ransom was paid and he was released, Caesar equipped a fleet, overtook the pirates, captured them, and ordered their crucifixion. However, before their execution, he showed them a final mercy and ordered their throats slit, sparing them a long torture.

4. Tactile Dyslexia

Dyslexia is not limited to visual reading. It also affects blind people who read Braille.

5. At Home Among Strangers

Traditionally, Japanese ninjas didn't always wear black, as they were most often depicted. They wore ordinary clothes to blend in with the crowd. Black was worn only on special occasions, usually for night missions.

6. A Disease Repeatedly Forgotten and Rediscovered

Scurvy was described as a disease by Hippocrates, and the Egyptians recorded its symptoms as early as 1550 BC. The knowledge that foods containing vitamin C treat scurvy was repeatedly rediscovered and forgotten until the early 20th century.

7. Modest Record-Breaker

Arctic terns, migrating from the Arctic to Antarctica, can travel 2.4 million kilometers in their lifetime.

8. Frontman in Feathers

There's a metal band called Hatebeak, whose vocalist is an African grey parrot named Waldo.

9. The Eye of Sauron in Space

In 2011, NASA astronomers nicknamed the center of the spiral galaxy NGC 4151 the "Eye of Sauron" after the all-seeing symbol of evil from J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings. The similarity stems from the red-yellow-blue spectrum of X-rays emitted at the galaxy's center.

10. Billy the Jolly

Bill Murray was once arrested in Stockholm on suspicion of driving a golf cart while intoxicated. Murray signed a statement admitting to drinking and was released. The actor is the star of numerous comedy blockbusters, including the 1980 film "Golf Club," which satirized the world of backcountry golf.
