Scandinavian magic: miniature fairy houses on the Isle of Man (19 photos)
On the Isle of Man, tucked between Great Britain and Ireland, something magical happens. In the most unexpected places—on forest paths, along the coast, on hillsides, and even on stone walls—you can find tiny, incredibly detailed fairy houses. 
These fairytale castles and palaces seem to rise from the earth of their own accord. 
These miniature masterpieces were created by the Swedish art collective Anonymouse MMX, famous for their works for the planet's smallest inhabitants. The artists have already created cozy homes for mice, the world's smallest bookstore, and even a mini amusement park around the world. 
Their project fits perfectly into the folklore of the Isle of Man, whose history is closely intertwined with legends of fairies and the Little People. There's even a special place there—the Fairy Bridge over the River Santon, where, according to tradition, every passerby should mentally greet the fairies to avoid bad luck. 
As group member Yasha Mauskewitz explained, they learned about these legends from their colleagues, British miniature enthusiasts. The fairy tales enchanted them so much that the group decided to infuse the island with a little magic by placing hand-made houses for its mysterious inhabitants. 
Each structure, approximately 30 centimeters tall, is a unique work of art. To create them, the artists used natural and antique materials: stone, wood, copper, vintage glass, and even paper clips. All the houses were painstakingly built in Malmö, Sweden, and then made the journey to the island. 
The houses blend so seamlessly into the landscape that it seems as if they've always been there.
