A Rare Lamborghini from the Royal Garage Will Be Auctioned (37 photos)

A Lamborghini Islero will be auctioned at Broad Arrow this weekend. Besides its collectible status and rarity, the identity of its first owner, a member of the Spanish royal family, adds to this particular example's value. This 1969 rarity is expected to sell for between 300,000 and 350,000 Swiss francs, or between 380,000 and 440,000 dollars.

Lamborghini produced the four-seat Islero grand tourer for only two years, in 1968 and 1969. Ultimately, only 225 units of the model were produced, and how many survive to this day is unknown.

The Islero was equipped with a 3.9-liter V12 engine borrowed from the more popular Lamborghini Espada, which produced 350 horsepower in the most powerful S version. However, the coupe offered for sale is the base model, with output reduced to 325 horsepower. Only 155 standard Isleros were built (other estimates put the number at 125), but even fewer were produced with a factory-painted blue body and cream interior.

After a brief stay in Barcelona, the coupe was transported to the United States, where it was acquired by a local collector. He eventually paid for a full restoration of the car, but in 2012 he sold it to a German colleague. Since 2017, the Islero has been in Switzerland, where it was restored for the second time.
