New Models and Technologies from Genesis
Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group, is aggressively expanding its product lineup with a focus on high-performance electric vehicles and hybrid technologies. Key announcements include:
Electrification and Power Plans
During Hyundai’s recent investor day, CEO Jose Muñoz presented a slide confirming Genesis’ development of new electric vehicles, range-extenders (EREVs) and hybrids (HEVs). The brand’s electric vehicles will be focused on high performance, with the base versions expected to have over 600 horsepower and the top-of-the-line versions to have over 1,000 horsepower.
Genesis Reveals Why Magma Will Deliver A Different Experience Than Hyundai N
The Genesis brand, similar to Lexus for Toyota, is getting a sporty character with a new Magma division, which is also preparing to participate in endurance racing with the GMR-001 Le Mans Daytona hypercar.
Magma’s first steps and future models
The first model from Magma will be a special version of the Genesis GV60, which is likely to borrow components from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. It is expected to have more than 600 hp, but this is just the beginning - there are plans for models with more than 1,000 hp.
Hyundai didn’t provide details on the shape or type of Genesis’ upcoming high-performance electric vehicle. It could be a road-going hypercar inspired by Le Mans, or an electric version of the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept. However, given the potentially limited demand for such niche products, it’s more likely that it will be a high-performance sedan or SUV capable of competing with the Porsche Taycan, Macan Electric or the upcoming Cayenne Electric, which also promises over 1,000 hp.
Additional technological advantages
In addition to the high-performance electric vehicles, Genesis announced that the range extender models will be able to offer over 1,000 km of combined range, and the traditional hybrids will be able to offer over 500 hp. with high fuel efficiency and power on par with electric vehicles.
The expansion of the Genesis lineup amid a general trend toward electrification and higher performance signals the brand’s ambition to establish itself not just as a luxury carmaker but also as a serious player in the high-performance segment. It could also help increase competition in the premium electric vehicle market, dominated by manufacturers such as Porsche and Tesla.
