Hyundai to release more than 20 electric innovations, including a supercar (22 photos)

5 September 2024

Hyundai shared some plans for the future at the Investor Day. By 2030, the Koreans intend to actively expand their electric model line. More than 20 new models will enter the market under the Hyundai and Genesis brands, including the production version of the N Vision 74 concept. Official confirmation of the conveyor fate of this supercar, in fact, has been received for the first time.

Hyundai unveiled the N Vision 74 prototype back in 2022. In addition to the attractive vintage design in the spirit of the 1974 Hyundai Pony concept, it is equipped with an ultra-modern fuel cell power plant with an output of 680 hp. Rumors that the company is already working on a commercial implementation of the concept have appeared repeatedly. They even named the planned circulation - 70 cars for public roads and 30 track supercars, but Hyundai has not confirmed these intentions to date.

The company has not yet disclosed even the approximate date of the supercar's appearance, nor its powertrain. Considering that hydrogen cars are still not in great demand, most likely, the coupe will receive a "pure" electric drive.

There are no specifics about the planned electric innovations, with the exception of the very first one. It will be called Ioniq 9, and it is a large crossover with a three-row interior, which is being developed based on the 2021 Hyundai Seven concept. The debut of the production version of this prototype is expected to take place at the end of the year at an exhibition in Los Angeles, and the choice of the premiere location is due to the company's plans to establish assembly of the Ioniq 9 at its new plant in Georgia with a capacity of up to 300 thousand cars per year.

With a very high degree of probability, the Ioniq 9 will debut as an electric car. At the same time, at the Investor Day, Hyundai announced its interest in power plants of the type that is already actively used in China, but is almost never used in Korea. This is a serial hybrid - a combination of electric motors and an internal combustion engine, where the wheels rotate due to electric traction, and the gasoline engine only generates energy. According to Hyundai's management, such cars could become a kind of bridge for buyers from cars with traditional internal combustion engines to "pure" electric cars and facilitate the "big transition". It is claimed that a fundamentally new power plant for the concern has already been almost developed, and Hyundai will launch production of such hybrids in the USA and China in 2026.

In total, Hyundai plans to sell up to two million electric cars a year worldwide by the end of the decade.
