In the US, a three-year-old boy found a combat grenade and brought it Home (3 photos)
A boy found a live grenade near a home in Washington state. According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the three-year-old brought the weapon home on Willard Street in Hardline on the evening of Monday, October 1st. The parents hid the find in a shed and called 911.
Explosives technicians determined the grenade was live. It was taken to a rural area north of the home for disposal.
The sheriff's office later posted photos of the rusted grenade.
"This is a World War II-era grenade that has obviously been exposed to the elements for a long time. It's still unknown how it ended up in the family's yard or how long it was there," the office added.
According to Explosives Squad Leader Clifford Pratt, the find was not a military-grade weapon, but an improvised explosive device in a grenade casing.
"We consider them very dangerous because we don't know what's inside until we X-ray them," he added.
Two years ago in the UK, a nine-year-old boy discovered a World War II-era grenade in his backyard. The boy's mother called the police and the bomb squad. The specialists who arrived took the grenade to a nearby field, where they defused it.
