Rescuers freed an 800-kilogram horse stuck in a swamp (5 photos)
On September 3, an 800-kilogram Brabancon horse was rescued in Bromyard, England. Ruby was found in a swamp, with only her head and neck visible.
The fire brigade spread straw in front of the horse so it could lean on it and pull itself out of the swamp. However, the animal was too exhausted.
Unable to locate the horse's owner, rescuers asked a local farmer to bring a telehandler and a veterinarian.
Sedatives were used to calm the horse.
It took some time and effort, but once the straps were tightened, the team was able to extract Ruby.
"Veterinarian Georgie gave Ruby a sedative to keep her calm during the climb," the Bromyard Fire Department reported. "She was pulled out of the bog and moved to a safe location. The horse stood in the lifting harness for a short time to recover. The harness was then unfastened, and Ruby was taken to the stables, where Georgie gave her a thorough examination."
"She assured the animal was unharmed, was doing well, and would recover with a good rest."
"Thank you to everyone who helped save Ruby. The team pushed themselves to the limit and achieved a brilliant result."
The horse fell into a swamp after jumping an electric fence.
