A woman fought off a puppy with her bare hands from a 1.5-meter alligator (4 photos)
Last week, Dani Wright was walking her 4-month-old puppy, Dax, near her home in Land O'Lakes, Florida. Suddenly, an alligator emerged from the water and grabbed her pet by the collar.
"I heard a yelp, and something pulled me," Wright said. "The alligator grabbed the puppy by the collar and started dragging him, but I didn't let go."
The American woman waved her fists until she freed the dog.
"I just hit him, hit him, hit him. I hit him in the eye so hard that he let go of Dax... But he still had his hand in his."
Dax was unharmed, but Wright was injured and is currently recovering.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers captured the alligator and removed it from the area.
"Be careful, alligators are unforgiving," Wright warned. "I mean, he crawled fifteen feet and got close to us, and I didn't even notice him."
In Florida, about eight unprovoked alligator attacks on people are recorded each year. Pets suffer attacks from the reptiles much more often.
In July, 27-year-old Amber Perren was attacked by a 2.5-meter alligator while wading in the St. Lucie River. She survived, but required several surgeries.
