The developers called this result a partial success.

On July 29, the first orbital rocket Eris, developed by Gilmour Space Technologies, was launched. The flight lasted 14 seconds, after which the rocket exploded.

Despite the inglorious end of the tests, the developers are happy:

"14 seconds of flight, 23 seconds of engine operation. This is significant progress for the Australian rocket program. The team is safe, the data has been received, now all attention is on the second test launch,” the company said in a statement.

In any case, the company's CEO Adam Gilmore believes that this epochal event has brought Australia closer to the club of six countries that regularly launch spacecraft into orbit.

The first attempt to launch the 23-meter, 30-ton rocket was supposed to take place in May of this year, but shortly before the start of refueling, the rocket dropped its nose fairing, which protects the payload and the third stage of the launch vehicle. This emergency, as the developers explained, occurred due to an unexpected power surge.

It took some time to fix the problem, after which the rocket was ready for launch again in early June, but due to strong winds, the test had to be postponed again. Finally, the launch took place, although not with the ideal result that the developers expected. However, the engineers are determined: they will analyze the reasons for the failure and plan to conduct a second launch of the rocket in six months.

By the way, last week the company received $5 million from the Australian government for its Eris launch vehicle to develop a next-generation liquid rocket engine.
