Britain has created the world's most powerful 13-kilogram electric motor (3 photos)
British company Yasa Limited has announced the development of a record-breaking electric motor. In terms of power-to-weight ratio, the new unit is more than twice the current industry standard. Such engines are planned to be mass-produced, but when exactly this will happen is not yet specified.
The newest Yasa electric motor weighs 13.1 kilograms and develops 748 hp. Thus, for every kilogram of the new unit there are approximately 57 forces. The publication specifies that currently the industry standard is considered to be a ratio of about 20 hp/kg. The company called its achievement an unofficial world record, noting that the power figure is not theoretical, but was obtained during real tests and achieved without the use of exotic materials.
According to the company, such motors have the potential for mass production. Yasa could produce from 10 to 50 thousand super-powerful units per year, provided that there are buyers for them, and the price makes the project profitable. In May, Yasa announced the launch of a plant for the production of high-tech electric motors in the UK with a design capacity of up to 25 thousand units per year.
The company is now part of the Mercedes-Benz concern, and its engines are used, for example, in the latest Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept. However, Yasa also supplies its engines to the assembly lines of companies such as Koenigsegg, Ferrari and Lamborghini.
