Porsche spoke about the future electric hypercar (3 photos)
The new flagship Porsche - the ideological successor to the 918 Spyder - will be battery-powered and all-wheel drive. Porsche Mission X project manager Michael Behr told Which Car. Some fundamental details of its design are already known, but, according to Behr, the final decision on the launch of the hypercar has yet to be made.
Porsche plans to release a new hypercar based on the Mission X concept. As Michael Behr noted, the production car will be very similar to the concept in appearance, although with modifications - for example, a modified roofline. Porsche wants to increase headroom in the new hypercar compared to the 918 Spyder to make it more comfortable for the driver to wear a racing helmet behind the wheel.
In addition, the layout may be changed - the wheelbase will be increased, and the battery will be integrated into the floor panels, whereas in the concept they are located behind the cabin capsule. Another difference: all-wheel drive will be dictated by practicality rather than handling. According to engineers, this will increase the efficiency of the recovery system. The hypercar’s energy reserve, as Porsche assures, should be enough for at least three laps around the Nurburgring in the “gas to the floor” mode. The predicted engine power to weight ratio is approximately 1:1.
The company will approve the launch of the hypercar into production only under certain conditions. This creates a charging system twice as fast as the current Porsche Taycan and aerodynamics that generate more downforce than the 911 GT3 RS. Finally, the electric car must have the potential to become the absolute Nürburgring record holder among production road cars. That title currently belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One with its 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds. According to Michael Behr, the final decision will be made by Porsche management during this year.
