Volvo is no longer a leader - once the safest cars in the world did not make it into the Euro NCAP rating (1 photo)
Euro NCAP, the independent car safety rating organisation, has released its latest crash test results. These tests highlight the strengths and weaknesses of new models, determining how well they protect the driver, passengers and pedestrians in a crash.
New Euro NCAP requirements, introduced in 2025, make it much more difficult to achieve a maximum score, but this is what helps ensure that European car safety standards remain among the highest in the world.
Euro NCAP crash test results provide important guidance for consumers when choosing a car, and also encourage car manufacturers to further improve safety systems.
Despite the fact that the Euro NCAP program is constantly improving and tightening safety requirements, not all new cars were able to receive the maximum rating of five stars. This suggests that some manufacturers still have work to do to meet modern safety standards.
For example, a serious defect in the side curtain airbag was found in the Chery Tiggo 7. During a side impact, the curtain did not work properly, which significantly reduced the protection of the child's head sitting in the back seat. Even after making changes to the design, the result remained unsatisfactory. As a result, both the Chery Tiggo 7 and its three-row version Tiggo 8 received only four stars.
A similar problem occurred in the Hyundai INSTER. After a side impact, the driver's door was not locked, which also negatively affected the final safety rating. As a result, the Hyundai INSTER also received four stars. The Ford Tourneo Courier has improved rear passenger protection after the update and was able to increase its rating from three to four stars.
However, not all the results were disappointing. Five new models showed excellent results and earned the top rating of five stars. These are the Polestar 4, MG P9 EV, Lynk & Co 02, Zeekr 7X and OMODA 9.
The Polestar 4 demonstrated the best adult occupant protection, scoring an impressive 92%. Lynk & Co 02 became the leader in the field of electronic driver assistance systems, receiving 89%.
As we can see, among those who received 5 stars according to the system, there is not a single new Volvo car. Moreover, according to the results of 2025, this brand is not even in the TOP-30 safest cars in the world.
In 2024, the ranking of the best included only one model of the former Swedish auto giant - the Volvo EX30, which scored 5 stars.
