A cat fell into a pot of boiling oil in a restaurant in China (3 photos)
The incident occurred in a hot dog joint. A cat that lived in the customer area made its way into the kitchen and accidentally fell into a pot of hot oil, causing a spill of boiling liquid and burns to nine people.
The owner of the joint, surnamed Zhong, immediately arranged for the victims to be taken to the hospital and paid for their treatment in full, spending about $1,400. He also compensated for moral damages and waived the bills for other customers.
The cat, covered in oil, was immediately taken to the vet. The animal was diagnosed with burns on all four paws, minor fractures, and a fever. Zhong planned for the animal to become a "guard" of the restaurant after recovery, symbolically working off its "duty", but specialists were unable to save it due to the severity of its injuries.
After the incident, the restaurant installed a canopy over the open area to prevent similar incidents. According to the staff, despite the story with the cat, the flow of visitors after that increased.
