Vintage bus worth $500,000 from Ukrainian designer put up for auction (5 photos)
A 1937 vintage White 706 bus has been put up for auction at Mecum in the US. It is expected to fetch $500,000, which is a considerable sum for such vehicles. Focus reports this.
A total of 500 White 706 buses were produced from 1935 to 1939. They were created specifically for excursions to the largest national parks in the USA.
The White 706 was designed in the Bender studio by Ukrainian Count Oleksiy Sakhnovsky. His mother was the granddaughter of the famous sugar manufacturer Tereshchenko, and his father was a descendant of Mykola Gogol and Pavlo Polubotko.
After the 1917 revolution, Oleksiy Sakhnovsky left Kyiv and emigrated first to Belgium, and later to the USA, where he became an automotive designer.
Oleksiy Sakhnovsky designed not only buses, but also trucks, as well as Packard, Cord and Austin cars. He was a supporter of the aerodynamic style that was innovative at the time.
The White 706 also has a streamlined design. In addition, it has a folding roof and four doors on the right side. The interior is designed for 14 passengers.
The White 706 bus is equipped with a 5.2-liter six-cylinder engine with 94 hp. It is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The maximum speed is 72 km/h.
This particular White 706 was used in Glacier National Park in Montana. By the way, several buses still operate there, but with new powertrains. However, this White 706 is completely original and has recently undergone a restoration and has only been driven 400 km since then.
