Pay with fat - earn money: how a Chinese company turned weight into a bonus (4 photos)
Well, friends, forget about gym memberships and trendy smart watches. In China, they came up with a much simpler and crueler system of motivation to lose weight.
The Insta360 company (yes, the same one that makes cameras for bloggers) decided: fat is an asset, but only if you lose it.
The scheme is elementary, like morning exercises. For every 500 grams lost from the sides - 500 yuan. But if suddenly after dumplings and beer the kilos return, get ready to fork out: the company charges a fine of 800 yuan for the same half a kilo. It turns out not a gym, but a fat exchange: the rate of "half a kilo" today is plus 500, tomorrow - minus 800.
Over the year, 99 employees took part in the "fat lottery". Together, they lost almost a ton of weight and pulled out 1 million yuan from their employer. The most striking story is a girl who lost minus 20 kg and gained 20 thousand yuan in 90 days. No startups, no crypto - just don't eat buns.
Employees share their weight loss results.
Some sources specify: the campaign lasted from June 2022, there were as many as five three-month cycles like a "boot camp". Not 99, but 155 employees participated. In total, more than 800 kg were lost, and the company went broke by almost 1 million yuan (≈140 thousand dollars). One particularly stubborn comrade made 21 thousand yuan, and the most compact team - almost 100 thousand.
And here the main question arises: are you ready for such a "challenge"? In our offices, the most they can promise is a bonus for "a task completed on time." And there, people get a bonus comparable to a good salary for refusing shawarma.
Imagine: you go to a corporate party, instead of pizza and cake they give you scales. "Minus a kilogram? Well done, take 1000 yuan! Plus a kilogram? Write a statement to the accounting department." For us, this would definitely turn into a new sport: who will lose weight faster by Friday, so that on Monday they can wash it all down with beer.
In general, the Chinese have taken a step forward again, now even fat brings profit for them. Maybe someday we will introduce a KPI based on waist size. Would you agree to participate in such a thing?
