Vintage Mercedes-Benz 280 SL turned into an electric car (7 photos)
The Texas studio Moment Motor, specializing in individual solutions in the field of electromodding, presented a vintage Mercedes-Benz 280 SL, converted entirely to electric traction. The work was valued at $250,000, more than twice the price of a new, state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz EQS electric car.
Tuners begin designing an electric mod by studying the drawings and creating a 3D model of the car, on which various options for placing engines and power equipment are studied. Moment Motor claims that they are trying to maintain the authentic handling sensation even after replacing internal combustion engines with electric motors.
The studio offers to equip the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL roadster with a 62-kilowatt battery, providing a range of about 280 kilometers, and an electric motor with 304 hp. and 502 Nm. This is significantly more than the standard 170 horsepower for the 280 SL, so during the conversion process the car receives stronger brakes. In addition, the roadster will be upgraded with a steering mechanism and instruments, and will also be equipped with an air conditioning system.
The atelier claims to have contacts with a classic car dealer, with the help of which it selects donors for conversion. At the same time, Moment Motor is ready to convert the client’s car to electric traction – it will cost at least 135 thousand dollars.
