750-kilogram monster: the world's largest killer shark was caught
The deadly predator was caught in the western North Atlantic using a hand-line with a baited hook.
On Sunday, February 9, a signal from a tracking device inserted into the shark's fin showed it swimming off the coast of Florida. The predator was eventually caught in the western North Atlantic using a hand-line with a baited hook. The giant prey was later brought to the platform of the M/V Ocearch and lifted onto the platform.
According to biologists, sharks often migrate in the fall and winter in search of prey in the waters near Florida and the southeastern United States. The most recent signals from the "Pretender" came from the east coast of Florida near Jacksonville and Orlando.
Ocearch researchers use this method to study sharks, their behavior and travel routes. In addition, specialists collect important biological samples. Once tagged, the shark can be tracked for up to five years.
Shark attack
The threat of attacks on people is quite low, since great white sharks usually stay more than 60 kilometers from the coast. However, attacks by killer predators do happen from time to time. As a rule, this happens because they confuse a person with their usual prey.
In any case, sharks should not be provoked. It is also recommended to adhere to additional safety measures: swim closer to the shore, do not swim at dawn or dusk, do not go into muddy water and avoid excessive splashing.
