In September 2024, 117-year-old Spanish Maria Brañas Morera passed away. And her title of "World's Oldest Person" passed to Tomiko Itooka, also from the Land of the Rising Sun.

But she did not manage to hold on to this truly honorable title for long. Tomiko lived 116 years and 225 days and died on December 29 in a nursing home in Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. She was born on May 23, 1908 in Osaka and was the eldest of three sisters.

Grandma was a real centenarian, her age was verified by several gerontological agencies.

One of the key secrets of Tomiko's longevity is an active lifestyle. Until old age, she continued to engage in physical exercise, such as mountaineering and hiking.

Now the oldest person in the world is 116-year-old Brazilian nun Ina Canabarro Lucas.

If Tomiko believed that the most important thing is movement, she believes that the secret to longevity is prayer and a clear daily routine.
