The TV Series "Scrubs" May Be Relaunched with the Same Cast (5 photos)
ABC is working on a reboot of the sitcom "Scrubs." The project wants to attract the stars of the original series. The creator of the cult sitcom Bill Lawrence shared his thoughts on the reboot of the project.
Bill Lawrence is working on a reboot of the sitcom "Scrubs" for the ABC channel with the support of 20th Television. Production is in the early stages. This was reported by Variety and Deadline.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Lawrence will not be the showrunner of the reboot of "Scrubs." The cast has yet to be finalized.
20th Television is focusing on bringing back key cast members from the original Scrubs, including Zach Braff (John "J.D." Dorian), Sarah Chalke (Elliott Reed), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk), and John C. McGinley (Perry Cox).
Uncertainty remains surrounding Judy Reyes, who left the series ahead of its final season. Sources say her character, strict nurse Carla Espinosa, is already in early plans for the reboot. However, Reyes' involvement is in question, as she is currently starring in the successful drama series Big Potential.
Bill Lawrence has previously said on multiple occasions that he and the main cast of Scrubs would be open to working together again. The producer has said that he sees the potential project as something between a revival and a reboot.
He recently shared his thoughts on the reboot of the series in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The producer once again noted that he and the cast would like to work on the show again, and Lawrence has his own reasons for returning to the series that are not related to the financial component.
There's no answer to the question of why I would return to a show and why everyone would like it. Let me start by saying that if I thought the idea was bad, I wouldn't have done it. I'm not after money or self-aggrandizement. I don't need that.

Creatively, Lawrence wasn't interested in making a show if the characters were the same people as the original. He is curious about how the characters and the medical field have changed over the years.
The Scrubs revival will feature both the original writers and new writers. Overall, Lawrence calls the idea of a reboot a "win-win" and says he will "accept the consequences" of his decision.
My favorite shows have had reboots too, and that's how I feel about them. I watch the sequel, and if it's great, I'm very happy. If it's just good, at least it doesn't offend me. If the reboot is crap, I'll happily complain to my friends about it, but not on the internet. That's how I watch TV. So for me, it's a win-win situation.

The Scrubs reboot team is currently looking for a showrunner, and full-time work will begin once one is appointed. However, Lawrence is already discussing basic ideas with the writers, and they are reviewing every episode of the original series.
