Fairytale meadow in downtown Calgary (11 photos)
A herd of colorful, yet realistic painted statues of horned beauties are comfortably located in the center of the "cow city."
The city of Calgary, in the province of Alberta in the southwestern part of Canada, has long been famous for its Wild West lifestyle. The history of the city, inhabited by cattle breeders, cowboys, where the favorite entertainment is rodeo, has earned it a well-deserved nickname "Cow City." Not to mention the fact that it is considered the main supplier of beef in the country.

But the reflection of the name in art appeared much later. At the turn of the century and millennium, in 2000, one charitable art organization organized a large-scale and very kind installation. A whole herd of life-size cows appeared in the center of Calgary. The project, called "Cow Art", became a reference to the past of Calgary. And it aroused (and continues to do so) boundless curiosity among city residents and visitors.
Made of cast fiberglass, the statues are almost one and a half meters high and two meters long. Initially, they were simply white. Then the sculptures were purchased (by the way, not cheaply - $5 thousand per head) by local residents and organizations. Together with artists, the new owners gave the cows uniqueness, painting them in bright colors and creating individual images. Quite quickly, 125 such cows were exhibited in the city center. Horned cows settled on almost every corner.
