Vending machines with cartridges appeared in the USA (3 photos + 1 video)
Some US states have recently introduced vending machines where you can buy ammunition. You can find them in supermarkets.
Americans love guns—the United States ranks first in the world in gun density per capita. And now some states have AI-powered vending machines where you can buy ammo.
Vending machines selling firearms ammunition have appeared in supermarkets in the US states of Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas, Gizmodo reports. However, the sales process is a little more complicated than regular soda and chip machines.
Texas-based American Rounds, the company behind the ammo vending machines, says its machines use artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to verify the age of customers.
In many states in the United States, it is surprisingly easy to purchase firearms and ammunition. Most often, regulation is related only to the age of the buyer.
Federal law requires a person to be over 18 years old to purchase long gun ammunition and over 21 years old to purchase handgun ammunition.
How do ammunition vending machines work?
In order to buy ammunition from a vending machine, you need to click on the screen and select the desired type of ammunition.
The device then asks you to verify your age using your ID. Afterwards, it scans the client’s face and requests payment.
Not everything is so smooth...
American Rounds does not disclose the supplier of the facial recognition software. It is unknown how accurately the algorithms work.
In addition, there are no documents related to terms or confidentiality agreements on the company's website.
