Ferrari has unveiled a new supercar with a naturally aspirated V12 producing 830 hp. (17 photos)
The car received the simple name 12Cilindri with a reference to the power unit used - a naturally aspirated V12 with a volume of 6.5 liters. The car debuted in two body styles, coupe and spider, each of which can accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. Pre-orders are now open. The cost starts at 395,000 euros. For an open body you will be asked to pay an additional 40 thousand euros.
Ferrari says the 12Cilindri is based on a new aluminum chassis. The supercar turns out to be slightly more compact than the 812 Superfast and demonstrates a completely different design language. The appearance of the new product is filled with references to iconic models of the past. For example, the contours of the front end with black inserts should be reminiscent of the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. According to the creators, retro motifs emphasize continuity: front-engine sports cars with naturally aspirated V12s appeared at Ferrari seven decades ago.
The current iteration of the naturally aspirated engine has the same displacement as the 812 Competizione and produces an identical 830 hp. s., but there was less traction - 678 versus 692 Nm. Apparently, this is due to the need to fit the powerful engine into the harsh EU economic standards. The engine features titanium connecting rods, a lightweight crankshaft, carbon-coated camshafts and a shortened intake tract with variable geometry. The engine software can change traction performance depending on the selected gear for a more intense driving experience.
The V12, capable of spinning up to 9500 rpm, works with an 8-speed robot instead of the 7-speed gearbox on the Ferrari 812. This unit is already actively used on other modern Ferrari models, and in the case of the naturally aspirated engine, the addition of an eighth gear made it possible to reduce fuel consumption with uniform traffic on highways. The new gearbox shifts 30% faster and delivers 12% more traction to the wheels.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri coupe will accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The Spider is slightly slower - 2.95 and 8.2 seconds, respectively. The maximum speed of both is 340 km/h. Stability at high speeds is helped by a whole complex of active aerodynamic elements that increase downforce in the range from 60 to 300 km/h, and cooling of the units is facilitated by a carefully thought-out system of air ducts, flaps and louvers. Both the coupe and the spider are equipped with steering rear wheels by default.
The interior of the Ferrari 12Cilindri has an almost symmetrical architecture - the driver and passenger cockpits are very similar. Each of them received its own display, but if the diagonal of the dashboard is 15.6 inches, then the passenger was allocated only an 8.8-inch screen. The 10.25-inch touchscreen is installed in the center and is accessible to both. The steering wheel with capacitive buttons is borrowed from other Ferraris. Burmester acoustics are optionally available - the 1600-watt system consists of 15 speakers.
