Old BMW Z4 turned into a luxury roadster (13 photos)
Body shop Ares Modena from Italian Modena presented a project with the complex name Wami Lalique Spyder. This is a roadster with a vintage design in the style of sports cars of the 1960s, but on a relatively modern basis: the new product is based on the BMW Z4 platform in the E85 body. Only 12 units of the Wami Lalique Spyder will be produced.
Ares Modena said that with their project they wanted to recall the carefree era of the Italian La Dolce Vita and the cars that movie stars drove. The styling of Wami Lalique is truly reminiscent of some iconic sports cars of the 60s, such as the Ferrari 250 GT California or Maserati with Frua bodywork. Innovations in design have led to an increase in the length of the sports car by approximately 350 mm with a standard wheelbase.
The Italians make body panels by hand from carbon fiber and generously decorate them with chrome. The spoked wheels, linings on the air intakes and sills are also chrome-plated. The interior of the Ares Modena spider is trimmed with English oak, expensive Italian leather and carbon fiber. At the same time, the main feature of the interior is handmade patterned glass inserts from craftsmen from the Parisian jewelry house Lalique. Each car will receive 13 of these inserts.
Ares Modena specialists decided not to interfere with the mechanics this time. Wami Lalique retains the factory 3-liter BMW engine with 231 hp. With. and 300 Nm in combination with a 6-speed automatic. The BMW Z4 with such an engine took 6.2 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h; the Italian roadster should be somewhat more dynamic.
Ares Modena did not disclose the cost of the Italian-German roadster, the circulation of which will be limited to 12 copies.
