When Lisa Reid, a New Zealand resident, was 11 years old, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Following the surgery to remove it, Lisa's vision deteriorated rapidly before vanishing completely. Doctors explained that the tumor had caused a rise in intracranial pressure, resulting in severe optic nerve atrophy. At the time, the vision loss was considered irreversible.

Lisa remained completely blind for the next 13 years. She learned to live independently, initially using a cane and later relying on the assistance of a guide dog named Ami.

One evening, she bent down to kiss her dog goodnight but lost her balance and struck her head against the corner of a coffee table. The injury seemed minor, so she did not seek medical attention.

The next morning, she was astonished to discover that she could see again with her left eye. According to her, her vision was restored by approximately 80%, allowing her to distinguish faces, read large print, and navigate without a guide dog.

There is still no definitive medical explanation for what happened. However, there is a hypothesis that, thanks to the brain's neuroplasticity, the impact may have activated alternative pathways for processing visual information, thereby restoring the woman's sight.
