Penguin delayed the plane's departure from the airport (4 photos)
The plane was preparing to take off from a New Zealand airport when a baby penguin suddenly appeared on the runway.
A flight was delayed at a New Zealand airport after a penguin ran onto the runway.
The incident occurred in the capital, Wellington, and disrupted the work of the international airport. The penguin rushed straight onto the runway.
This happened just as the Air Chathams plane was preparing to take off. Airport staff rushed to the airfield and managed to catch the bird and take it to safety.
The unexpected visitor turned out to be a six-week-old baby blue penguin, or korora penguin. Airport staff donated it to Wellington Zoo. The bird was hungry and weighed little for its age. They plan to fatten the penguin and release it into the wild when it grows a little and its feathers begin to repel water.
