Penguin rose to the rank of major general in the Norwegian army (8 photos)
The penguin is historically considered the mascot of the guards of Norway. The first bird was donated to the zoo 110 years ago by a Norwegian named Edward. Salvesen. The penguin was named Niels Olaf in honor of Niels Egelen and Olaf V, king of Norway.
Niels Olaf III was knighted in 2008, and in 2016 made a general. And finally, Sir Nils was awarded his new badge of honor at a special ceremony attended by more than 160 uniformed soldiers of the guard.
It is noted that the penguin was promoted "for good behavior and for that he was an excellent example for the rest of the penguins in Edinburgh Zoo".
