Nobody Wanted to Buy a €500,000 "Tyrannosaurus Rex" Bag (5 photos)
A major embarrassment has occurred in the world of luxury fashion. 
The Enfin Levé brand partnered with biotechnologists to create a unique Birkin-style bag, aptly named "Jurassic Park." However, at auction in Paris, this "masterpiece" fetched an exorbitant price, and was completely unsold.
The bag's creators approached the task with the utmost gusto of mad scientists. They extracted fragments of collagen protein from a Tyrannosaurus rex femur that had lain buried in the soil of Montana for 67 million years. Then AI took over: a neural network reconstructed the missing DNA strands, and an artificial biocomposite was grown in the lab that perfectly mimics the skin of an ancient predator. 
Enfin Levé designers used this material to create an angular bag in a deep turquoise green (officially the color of "autumn"). To boost the price, the hardware was cast in pure silver and encrusted with black diamonds. 
Before the auction, the unique lot was proudly valued at €500,000. The organizers rubbed their hands in anticipation of wealthy fashionistas, but reality proved harsh. The rich simply twirled their fingers at their temples. 
First, the bag was taken to a show in Amsterdam. There, it was looked at as a curiosity, but no one opened their wallets. And at the official auction in Paris, the lot failed miserably. The highest bid for the T-Rex skin was a modest €140,000. 
The lot never reached the reserve price. Rather than embarrass themselves further, the organizers hastily removed the bag from the auction and are now trying to quietly sell it to some private collector.
It seems that investor show-offs have died out as quickly as the dinosaurs themselves.
