An old Mercedes was restored for three years and is expected to sell for €350,000 (29 photos)
This is the 283rd of only 502 2.5-16 Evo IIs in existence.
This weekend, a Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II sedan will be auctioned in Monaco. Only 502 of these sports cars were built for the DTM homologation process, and according to RM Sotheby's, the 283rd will go under the hammer. Since 1990, the four-door car has covered over 80,000 kilometers, but is being offered at auction thanks to a meticulous restoration in perfect condition. The auctioneers estimate the price at between €260,000 and €350,000.
The road-going Mercedes-Benz 190 E, powered by a British engine from Cosworth, appeared in 1983, but initially featured a 2.3-liter engine producing 183 hp. By the "second evolution," engine displacement had increased to 2.5 liters, and output to 235 hp. This modification also featured adjustable suspension and a radically large rear wing for the time, combined with additional aerodynamic trim.
The example offered for sale belonged to its original owner from 1990 to 2006, who clocked up 79,000 kilometers (43,000 miles). The sedan underwent three years of restoration, from 2021 to 2023, and has since seen little use: its odometer currently reads 80,598 kilometers (50,500 miles). The four-door model is equipped with electrically adjustable and heated seats, air conditioning, and an electric sunroof.
