One of the Coolest Mercedes-AMG Convertibles to Go Under the Hammer (23 photos)
In mid-summer, RM Sotheby's will auction off a Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG convertible in Germany. This sports car is considered one of the most extreme AMG models and is also a collector's item—only 80 of them were ever produced. Finally, the example up for sale can be considered a "time capsule," as it has only covered 1,997 kilometers since 2006.
Winning the 2003 DTM Touring Car Championship prompted Mercedes-Benz to release a limited edition of sports cars commemorating the event. Ultimately, following the 100 CLK DTM coupes, another 80 (according to other sources, 100) technically identical convertibles were produced.
This modification's chassis, reimagined for racing, was paired with a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 producing 582 hp and 800 Nm. The convertible was claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 300 km/h. A matching body kit with flared wheel arches and a fixed rear wing was developed for the CLK DTM, and the standard seats and rear bench were replaced with four bucket seats.
Considering the rarity and condition of this particular example, the expected price is between 450,000 and 650,000 euros.
