Women saved the herring kings
American women rescued king oarfish that had stranded on the beach. The incident occurred in the Mexican resort town of Cabo San Lucas.
One of the lifeguards, Monica Pettinger, said she was relaxing on the beach with her family when her sister-in-law, Katie, noticed something wriggling in the sand. According to Monica, before she could even figure out what it was, Katie had already run up to the creature and started pushing it into the water.
It turned out to be a three-meter-long king oarfish, considered a harbinger of disasters, that had washed ashore. It was thrashing so hard that its tail had been torn off. Nevertheless, Katie continued to pull it out to sea, and Monica began to help her. Having managed to pull it out, the women were about to leave when they suddenly spotted another king oarfish.
According to Monica, the fish tried to return to shallow water, but she and Katie managed to push them back to a sufficient depth. The herrings swam away. "None of them looked particularly healthy," she admitted.
