In Texas, a hot air balloon got stuck 280 meters in a communications tower
In Texas, two people were trapped in a hot air balloon basket at an altitude of almost 1,000 feet. Their rescue took several hours, to the applause of onlookers in lounge chairs.
The colorful balloon crashed into a cell phone tower in Longview. The balloon's envelope tore on the sharp edges of the 1,000-foot structure, leaving the basket with two passengers suspended 900 feet in the air, swinging in the wind.
The rescue team was formidable: 14 brave souls, including some who weren't on duty, rushed to save the unfortunate victims. They used several 300-foot ropes to lower the victims. According to the rescuers, the passengers performed admirably: they didn't panic, clung to the edges of the basket, and did everything they were told.
While the rescue operation was underway, a crowd of spectators gathered below. Some even brought folding chairs to watch the action.
After the operation, the heroic rescuers were rewarded with free pizza.
