Judges declared that any form of artificial enhancement constitutes fraud.
Camel beauty contests are widespread in the Persian Gulf countries and are considered an important part of Bedouin cultural heritage. Thousands of animals participate in these events, and prize money reaches millions of dollars, increasing competition among breeders.
According to organizers, at a competition in Muscat, Oman, some animal owners attempted to gain an advantage by resorting to prohibited interventions. In particular, camels were found to have been injected with Botox to plump their lips, muscle relaxants to alter facial expressions, and silicone and wax fillers to correct the shape of their humps.
Organizers emphasized that any form of artificial enhancement of camels' appearance is against regulations and is considered fraud.
