Zeekr recalls model 001 due to a defective battery (10 photos)
Zeekr, a Geely subsidiary, has announced a recall in China: 38,277 001 electric liftbacks will be sent to service centers for battery replacement. The recall is due to defective battery cells from supplier Sunwoda, which acknowledged the issue and promised to pay Geely 2.5 billion yuan.
The recall affects Zeekr 001 vehicles manufactured between July 8, 2021, and March 18, 2024, in the We model with an 86-kilowatt-hour battery using Sunwoda cells. Due to a manufacturing defect in components, the battery may experience increased internal resistance, resulting in reduced performance. This could lead to a risk of dangerous driving situations. As part of the recall, defective batteries in electric vehicles will be replaced free of charge.
By the spring of 2024, Zeekr had shipped over 169,400 units of the 001 model. Therefore, the recall affects 22.5% of all Zeekr 001 models sold during the specified period.
Late last year, Geely subsidiary Viridi E-Mobility Technology (VREMT) filed a lawsuit against supplier Sunwoda, demanding 2.3 billion yuan in compensation. In early February, the parties reached an agreement: Sunwoda will pay compensation plus an additional payment, and VREMT will withdraw the lawsuit.
