The Greenland shark is considered the longest-living vertebrate on the planet, capable of living for over 400 years.

It grows extremely slowly—approximately 1 cm per year—and only reaches sexual maturity at 120–150 years.

This particular individual is estimated to have been born around 1627, which is 149 years before the founding of the United States and 318 years before the end of World War II. Theoretically, it could live for over 100 more years.
