40-year-old American climber Alex Honnold scaled the Taipei 101 building in 91 minutes. A large crowd came to watch the event, cheering him on, particularly from the observation deck on the 89th floor of the skyscraper.
Honnold ascended the 101-story skyscraper via the corner section, using small ledges. The central section of the building contains 64 floors in eight overhanging sections, making the climb particularly challenging. The climb was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 24, but was postponed due to rain.
Honnold began his ascent at 9:00 AM (4:00 AM Moscow time) on Sunday, January 25. He successfully reached the summit at 10:43 AM (5:43 AM Moscow time). It took him 91 minutes.
Honnold isn't the first climber to scale the skyscraper, but he is the first to do so without ropes. In 2004, French climber Alain Robert scaled the building but used ropes.
