Archaeologists working in Peru have made an interesting discovery—one that is quite significant for the scientific community. According to RIA Novosti, they discovered an astronomical structure that predates the famous Chanquillo solar observatory (built around 250 BC) by a full thousand years. It was used to observe the Sun and Moon.

According to archaeologist Ivan Gessia, this is a very valuable find that will allow the scientific community to take a fresh look at the development of astronomy among ancient peoples. Moreover, experts believe that the discovered system recorded not only the movement of the Sun but also lunar phenomena.
